Mumbaikar Hustle: Inspiring the next generation
There comes a point in life when many of us quietly wonder — what if someone had guided us better during our school or college days?
Even after four decades, I am confident that with the right guidance early on, I could have pursued a completely different career. Fortunately, life has been generous to me. I've been lucky to find work that I genuinely enjoy and that also offers me a good living.
But honestly, how many people can truly say they have both — passion and financial stability?
In a fast-paced city like Mumbai, earning well is important, but waking up every day feeling fulfilled by what you do is equally valuable. Sadly, most of us are taught only how to score marks, secure degrees, and land jobs with “good brands,” while very little attention is given to discovering our true strengths, talents, or passions.
Our education system, especially the one accessible to the middle class, still focuses heavily on bookish knowledge instead of helping young minds identify and sharpen a skill they naturally connect with — something they can enjoy doing and eventually build a successful career around.
Of course, dreams also need realism. It’s important to recognize what you are genuinely good at, what excites you, and what others appreciate you for. That is often where your real potential lies. Another challenge is the growing generation gap. Many parents, despite their best intentions, are disconnected from changing trends and modern career opportunities. Because of this, children are often not exposed to fields where
they may truly excel. Add to that financial limitations, lack of guidance, lack of the right contacts or opportunities, and the pressure of family responsibilities — and many middle-class individuals end up taking whatever job comes their way simply for stability.
I’ve seen this in my own life too. We accept average-paying jobs and celebrate getting associated with a well known company because society tells us that means “success.” But deep down, many of us know we are not truly happy with what we are doing.
Keeping all these realities in mind, we decided to create this online tabloid — a platform that shares the journeys of people from this city who dared to dream differently. These are individuals who worked hard, struggled, hustled, created opportunities for themselves, and today are excelling in fields they genuinely love.
What makes their stories even more valuable is their willingness to guide the next generation. They openly share their experiences — what helped them grow, what education or training benefited them, what skills young people should focus on, and how one can prepare themselves better for a particular career path, whether through formal education, self-learning, or private coaching.
We feature self-made individuals and people who transformed their family businesses by adapting to modern trends and changing times. Their stories are proof that success does not always come from privilege — sometimes it comes from persistence, courage, and believing in yourself even when nobody else does. Our hope is simple: maybe someone reading these stories will finally find clarity, confidence, or direction. Maybe a
young person with limited resources, or someone too shy to share their dreams out of fear of failure or judgment, will realize that their aspirations are valid too.
Remember, every big shot was once just a dreamer with wild ideas that made others go, "Huh?" So dream like there's no tomorrow! Roll the dice, take a leap, and keep learning like your brain's a sponge. Who knows — your pot of gold might be chilling just around the corner, waiting for you with a cup of coffee!
